Parenting is one of the most difficult jobs in the world. Yet, you are expected to be a good parent without any manuals, lectures or classes. If you are having difficulty parenting your child, a good therapist can help you learn and build effective parenting skills. Here are some do’s and don’ts:
- do express love towards your child by verbally letting them know you love them and in loving gestures
- do know your child’s friends and their parents, child's interests and how they are feeling
- do provide firm boundaries and consistency
- don’t let your child isolate themselves from family and friends
- don’t undercut your spouse in front of your children
- don’t wait to seek help if you suspect a serious problem
